Upward Awards Night 2012
Sunday, March 4, 2012
Pre-K and Kindergarten @ 2:00 p.m.
1st and 2nd Grades @ 3:30 p.m.
3rd through 5th grades @ 5:00 p.m.
The program will be held in the church sanctuary followed by refreshments and inflatables in the Family Life Center. Due to safety with the inflatables, we ask that all participants come with their assigned age group.
ABOUT UPWARD
Upward is an international non-profit organization that had over 500,000 children involved in the program worldwide last year and has been around more than 10 years (see Upward.org for background and history). With Upward basketball "EVERY CHILD IS A WINNER!".
UPWARD PROMOTES CHARACTER AND SELF-ESTEEM IN EVERY CHILD
•Providing an evaluation system that promotes equal teams and opportunities
•Establishing a one-hour practice and game each week
•Implementing a substitution system for each team, allowing every child equal playing time
•Creating the opportunity for every child to learn the skills of the game
Today's sports culture has created a "win at all cost" mentality. However,Upward defines winning as learning and/or teaching lessons in the game of life. The emphasis is placed on having fun and good sportsmanship.
WHEN YOUR CHILD PLAYS UPWARD SPORTS, HE/SHE WILL BE ABLE TO:
•Practice and play a game every week
•Get equal playing time
•Learn techniques to improve his/her player skills
•Receive special recognition rewards after each game
•Develop new friendships

WHEN YOUR CHILD CHEERS FOR UPWARD BASKETBALL, SHE WILL BE ABLE TO:
•Sign up individually, not as a squad
•Learn techniques to improve her cheerleading skills
•Receive special recognition awards after every game
•Embark on new friendships

We are looking for volunteers to coach, referee, run the time clock/scoreboard, work in the concession stand, and help with set-up/clean-up. Please let us know if you are willing to help out!
