The first pioneers settled in
the Jackson area around 1796 and were closely followed by the Methodist
Circuit Riders. The first Methodist gathering took place in 1805. As
Jackson developed and grew into a manufacturing and farming community,
the Methodist movement also grew to meet and address the spiritual needs
of the people. The first church building was erected in 1811, with our
current structure being dedicated in 1893.
Christ United Methodist Church, with a membership of over 600, continues to grow and change to meet the needs of the congregation and community. Our church draws strength from the past, and courageously plans for the future in order to respond to the needs of life in the contemporary world. |
